Otonabee Conservation released their 2023 Annual Report to the Watershed Community, at their board meeting on April 18^th. The report highlights last year’s accomplishments, thanks donors for their contributions, and gives supporters a better understanding of the Conservation Authority’s impact.

Otonabee Conservation staff are conducting spring dam operations including placing stop-logs into dams and installing warning buoys and buoy-lines upstream of Authority-owned dams.

A Flood Watch has been issued to alert municipalities, residents, and businesses that flooding of the Kawartha Lakes from the Tri-lakes (Buckhorn Lake, Pigeon Lake and Chemong Lake) eastward to the Otonabee River, Rice Lake, and Trent River to Hastings is possible.

A WATERSHED CONDITIONS STATEMENT – WATER SAFETY has been issued on April 2, 2024 because expected rainfall events over the next 3 days will cause periods of higher-than-normal water flows/levels that may be dangerous. Flooding is not expected.

Recent changes to the Conservation Authorities Act and its regulations will come into effect on April 1, 2024, providing Conservation Authorities across Ontario with amendments that have been anticipated for some time.

WATERSHED CONDITIONS STATEMENT – WATER SAFETY issued for Trent-Severn Waterway (TSW) for Kawartha Lakes, Otonabee River, Rice Lake and Trent River to Hastings and all Local Watercourses.

Again this year, campers are able to book their campsites online for Otonabee Conservation’s three campgrounds: Warsaw Caves Conservation Area, Beavermead Campground, and Lakefield Campground.

Land owners can purchase native bare-root tree seedlings. Orders can be submitted online starting on Wednesday, February 7th, with pickup in spring. The order deadline is Sunday, March 17^th.
